Community Chest public session set for Feb. 19

Baytown and East Harris County Community Chest will hold its annual public meeting February 19 at 7 p.m. in the Chamber of Commerce building. Baytown Marines Reunite After Vietnam Day

Two Baytown Marines Capt. David Saunders and Sgt. David Alford who played together as preschoolers in Morrell Park held a reunion in Vietnam. Their prior meeting in December lasted about 20 minutes aboard a helicopter while Saunders flew a Bird Dog and coordinated a pickup from Kuang Tri to visit Alford at his post four miles away.

Clay Hooper will start a four month loan assignment as Humble's public relations manager based in New Orleans on February 1. Goose Creek Charter Turns 50 Amid Baytown History

Baytown marks the 50th anniversary of Goose Creek's incorporation on January 28, 1919 as part of the city’s formation from three towns. A. M. A. Chappell of General Telephone recalled early Baytown years, from Bush’s Landing to the Goose Creek field’s explosive growth beginning in 1916 and the Sweet lease No. 11 gusher of 1917.

Durbin Reveals Durbin Was Involved, UT Students Deaths

Keitha Morris survived three strangling attempts before being drowned in Inks Lake after the Jan 8 UT student killings. Durbin Jr 21 is charged with killing Morris 19 and John White 21 was shot at the picnic site. Durbin, an engineering technician, sobbed at times during hours of questioning while police noted polygraph tests were inconclusive. A gun dealer helped shift investigators toward Durbin after a man bought a .38 pistol on Jan 4 and returned it the next day. The defendant’s lawyer said no statements would be released.

Thieu Says Some U S Troops To Leave Vietnam This Year
