Ron Bottoms began work Tuesday morning as Baytown's deputy city manager almost a year after the post opened. The vacancy followed Bob Leiper's promotion to city manager after Garry Brumback left, with Leiper later named acting city manager and then permanent in January 2011.
Baytown Shrine Club announces its biannual Oyster Fry at the Shriners Building, 110 West Main, on February 17. Proceeds support Arabia Shrine Center activities and Houston and Galveston Shrine Hospitals. Oyster plates are $12 each with servings lined to raise funds for local burn centers and children’s hospitals.
Grant coordinator Leasa Lopez outlined Baytown’s grant revenue at a council meeting. She reviewed funding for the fiscal year ending September, additions since then, and grants under consideration. She noted fewer grants from federal and state sources and higher matching requirements.
A 53 year old Baytown man was woken at 4 30 am when an armed intruder wearing a camouflage mask forced him back inside his home on Barrymore Street The attacker took his wallet credit cards and cash and compelled him to reveal bank card pins before binding him with tape and leaving. The incident is one of two aggravated robberies reported in Baytown by police investigators.
Young people ages nine to 15 can join the Young Photographers of Baytown. The first meeting is this Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. and will recur the first Friday of each month at the Art League of Baytown Art Center, 110 W. Texas Ave. The club is sponsored by Baytown Photo Club and focuses on education and a positive photography experience for kids with any camera or experience level.
