A four inch gas line was struck along Eagle Drive near Mont Belvieu causing FM 565 to be entirely closed. Authorities evacuated nearby areas and traffic was rerouted as workers repaired the line. By about 4 p.m. the roadway was back open and normal traffic resumed.
Baytown police hunt three black men in an aggravated robbery after a Papa John’s driver delivering food on Garth Road and Memorial Drive was robbed of cash wallet cell phone pizzas wings and a two liter Pepsi. The driver was unhurt. Detectives link to 2009 and 2011 robberies as they probe possible connections.
Lee College Board of Regents will consider moving part-time non instructional staff to the full time pay scale at tonight’s 6 p.m. Tucker Hall session. If approved, the change would bring current salaries up to market rate to ensure competitiveness discussed in prior meetings. Interim President will preside. Regents page 3.
Goose Creek CISD and GCCISD students earned top honors at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Show held January 10. More than 300 entries competed, with seven winners advancing to the statewide Houston Rodeo art competition in March. Each participant received a merit certificate and a ribbon, with special recognition given to select works and artists. See shows page 3.
The Cedar Bayou Navigation District nominated Roger L. King of Lanxess Chambers County plant to fill an industrial seat. Law, Bayer representative, urged funding for the Cedar Bayou dredging project as federal dollars are sought with the Corps of Engineers and local delegation. King highlighted environmental and recreational bayou interests alongside commercial needs. Law became acting treasurer as a final vote on the vacancy is delayed until the open board seat is filled.
The city of Baytown presents the 11th annual Daddy and Me Valentine Dance on February 3 at the Baytown Community Center from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are seven dollars in advance or ten dollars at the door.
