Dan Stallworths are due home Sunday from Waco. Dan's father D. W. Stalworth is much better after a sudden seizure and has left hospital for home. Sue Hickman, Baytown Sun employee injured in La Porte accident, has returned home after a short Waco hospital stay with a broken kneecap. District Attorney W. Scott plans to seek re election next summer to finish the criminal docket. Miss Ann Harrell, Horace Mann faculty member, is ill and at Scott and White clinic in Temple since Christmas. Ed Krilman will speak at First Presbyterian Church meeting Tuesday Jan 19 at 7 pm. Square dance at 8 pm Saturday at Community House sponsored by Wagon Wheel club.

Detroit January 9 Army slashed its truck and trailer orders with six firms by 33 to 50 percent to save 3149 million. Production cuts idle at Chrysler Hudson and Studebaker, with unions warning of a low mood. Ford and GM plan increased output, and officials say cuts may not immediately affect jobs as military and civilian production share lines.
Pyle's Super Market at 3708 Market was robbed Friday night. Burglars sought money but found only 25 in change and stole 100 cartons of cigarets, 48 pounds of coffee, cigars and drug items. They entered through a ventilation window, used a barrel to reach the roof, and left a deck of cards and socks. Pyle noted prior burglary about three years ago and accepting the loss stoically.
A cold front moving through Texas will bring scattered thundershowers Saturday afternoon and Sunday, followed by much cooler air. The forecast low drops to 44 Saturday night as moisture from the Gulf meets the advancing front across East and South Central Texas.

Air Force police reported Capt Harvey J Collins stole an Army trainer plane at Fort Sill Oklahoma on Wednesday and crashed after leaving a note to his wife. He surrendered in Dallas Friday night after authorities and search teams chased the missing pilot. Collins, 28, a Tacoma Washington native and Army aviation student at Fort Sill, was brought to Carswell Air Force Base hospital. He had served in World War II and earned the Bronze Star on Iwo Jima. His wife said she knew of no reason for the act.
Three teenagers and a crippled Korean War veteran were jailed in Lav Porte city after police nabbed them for stealing money from news papers. Chief Roberson said theft charges would be filed. victims included two racks on Main streets. The 21 year old ex serviceman and Korean War veteran led the group. other youths were 17 16 and 39, all from Pasadena.
Clyde Pierson faces a murder trial in Judge Langston King's district court in Houston for shooting George Hoppe in the Old Main area. The trial, postponed twice due to witness absence, follows Pierson surrendering to police and remaining free on a $100 bond. defense cites Hoppe had threatened Pierson's life.
Baytown Jaycees prepare for their yearly campaign to collect poll taxes. The push starts at 7 p.m. Monday at the Quack Shack with Tax Assessor Carl Smith deputizing Jaycees and Latin American canvassers to engage residents before upcoming state, county, and school elections.
El Paso January 9 A judge delayed the trial of labor leader Jencks amid contempt citations. Jencks faces false swearing charges tied to a non Communist Taft Hartley affidavit. Separate developments include Craig St Vincent being cited for contempt over refusing to answer and asserting self incrimination due to links with alleged Communist activities.
President Eisenhower suspended universal military training plans while revising the military reserve system. Defense Mobilizer Arthur Fleming recommends long term reform with two new reserve categories, including a selectively callable reserve for essential civilian skills. The famous cocker spaniel Checkers, favored by Vice President Richard M. Nixon, has given birth to five black and white puppies. The mother dog rests with her brood in the Nixon basement near the furnace as Nixon approaches his 41st birthday. The pups arrived early Thursday, a birthday-like surprise for the Nixons.
The Atomic Energy Commission plans a new Pacific weapons test series featuring inexpensive H bombs with more than hydrogen, including B-36 delivery of a bomb in May at Eniwetok and nearby Bikini. Materials will move to the test area this month as part of ongoing postwar testing.
Robertson Transport Co driver E B Vowell, 46, leaped from a burning truck into the San Jacinto River bridge to save his life after a jackknifed trailer split the Market Street bridge around 2:30 am Saturday. He survived with severe burns, walked from the scene, and was taken to the hospital. Deputy Earl Hasley aided at the highway as the flames and damaged railing spread across the bridge. Bailey, another Robertson driver, aided after crossing the bridge and seeing the flames. The Channelview Fire Department and sheriff’s department responded. details remain uncertain as investigators review the wreckage.
Sgt Olachia of Baytown was listed presumed dead by the Defense Department after being reported missing in Korea since 1950. Born in 1532, he enlisted in Lis and served in active combat until his 1950 disappearance. his parents Mr and Mrs Adolfo Olachia live at 263 Hunter Set.
