President Eisenhower proposes a 1 point labor program for 1954 with a key change to Taft-Hartley. He urges that union strike votes be conducted by the government in secret to protect workers pay during a strike. The plan marks the only new element in his labor recommendations.
Community notices describe Mon day trips to Corpus Christi for veterans and hospital events at the VA center. Volunteers are sought for patient meals and a Wednesday dinner at the Houston VA hospital with a sportsmen donation noted. G W Campbell and Adrian Webb were swept into mud mats while shrimping near Atkinson Island Sunday. A search party found them Sunday morning in a small cabin boat. Wives alerted Emergency Corps after they failed to return, and rescue crews including Fire Chief Art Lintelman and LD Muggins pursued them by forge yacht. Both men, living in West Main apartments, were cold and hungry but unharmed.
Three people remained in Bay town hospitals Monday after a two car collision Sunday afternoon on Highway 146 at the old Cedar Bay cut-off road. Helen Ruth Brown 16 suffered a fractured skull and jaw with facial lacerations. Charles Mainer 18 and Donald King 20 were treated for lacerations and bruises.
A major nor'easter hit the East Coast starting Sunday, bringing more than 15 inches of snow to the New York metropolitan area. Funeral services for Mrs Alice Wenb McCall 88 will be at 10 a m Tuesday in Sherman. She died Sunday afternoon in a Baytown hospital and the body is in Waldo Funeral home Sherman. Survivors include a daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs J O Williams another daughter Mrs Wallace of Marietta Oklahoma two sons D S McCall Sherman and M A McCall Lamesa seven grandchildren seven great grandchildren four brothers and three sisters.

INNSBRUCK Jan 11 UP A miracle serum flown from the United States and brought by jeep through a raging snowstorm stopped the flow of blood threatening the life of an eight year old American. A dose of 20 cubic centimeters of anti hemophora globulin was injected into the vein of Gottfried Eder at the Innsbruck Children's Clinic shortly after two German drivers delivered the serum. The journey began at Lansing Michigan and passed through Washington, Mass, Frankfurt, and Fußerstenfeldbruck air base near Munich before reaching Innsbruck amid one of the winter’s fiercest snows.
Winter visitors brought a sharp chill to Baytown as rain moved in on Saturday night and Sunday temperatures dropped to the 20s. Forecasters warned the storm’s subsidence would be slow, with continued heavy winds and lingering wet conditions through the weekend.
Clyde Pierson Maaily goes to trial Monday morning on a murder charge, with only three jurors selected by 11 a.m. The trial, before Judge Langston King in Houston, follows postponements due to missing defense witnesses. A private amphibious plane crashed near a wooded lake south of Shreveport during ice conditions killing Braniff president T. E. Braniff, nine duck-hunting partners, and five pilots. The craft, part of the United Gay Car charter, struck trees and burned amid a snow sleet storm. several other notable businessmen and aviation figures were among the victims.
Tom Braniff, founder of Braniff International, began life in Kansas as a three dollar per week delivery boy for the Kansas City Star. He rose to become a prominent aviation executive, leading Braniff International and dying in a Grumman Mallard crash near Lake Charles, Louisiana, at age 70. The airline recently earned its 21st safety award, noting more than 2.5 billion miles flown without a fatality.
Solomon A Fisher, age 69 of Baytown and Houston, died Sunday at 11 am in a Houston hospital. Funeral arrangements were to be held at Pan Uf Lee Funeral Home at 2 20 am Monday with burial in Fisher cemetery in Chambers county. Survivors include four brothers EL RL and FD Fisher and sister Mrs Sarah Clark of Baytown. Pallbearers listed as W B Fisher Vernon Lawrence L B Fisher P J Fisher Walter and Lannie Fisher.
Voters in Bayou Water districts face Tuesday polls to choose new supervisors. Name listed candidates include Wood Barkeh, H. da A4iinsen, 2 Sicherry, A. A. Armete and Ta da Laytous. Polls open 7 am to 7 pm at Mont Belview Cran Awa and Cadur Bayou high schools.
Deputy Sheriff Brown and Officer Nichols pursued a lead from El Paso as authorities held Baytown teens Duke Stribling Emmett Stewart and a sixth youth in connection with a reported robbery. Baytown Chief McKee said a nationwide pickup order was issued for the car of the missing youths who were believed to be traveling together.
Thomas Maccabe Brownsviil reports a 250 person caravan organized by Willy Byar will travel 2500 miles from the United States into Mexico City and southern Mexico. The party plans a democratic approach with potential boat trips to Jamaica and guides a leisurely pace across the Rio Grande into Mexico starting Monday.
Two La Porte cars were heavily damaged Sunday in a collision at the corner of street and Park drive. The drivers, John Kubler and Wa. Terry, were unhurt. Mrs Terry was not in the car. Police Chief Walter Roberson cited the details. The TENAS A and M Mothers' club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church to plan for a tea for Baytown Awotog.
