Baytown police planned charges against two men after a 3:10 a.m. robbery of Stop-N-Go, where the clerk said a man at the pump distracted staff as a second man demanded cash. A car description and partial plate helped officers locate them an hour later at an apartment complex on Bowie School Drive.
Kreuzer and Haag differed on evacuee counts with around 300 versus 130 people moved as a precaution. Haag noted no real danger to residents or animals and blamed calm winds for the evacuation. Mrs. George Munger, evacuated from Lake Charlotte Road, recalled a daytime doorbell notice from a police officer.

Residents evacuated from Baytown returned home Sunday after crews began burying sulphur and the smoke cleared by 9:30 a.m. No injuries or livestock losses were reported, and about 60 residents slept at Anahanac Junior High School while the work continued.
