Closed Liberty plant sold to Houston firm
Liberty officials with National Pipe & Tube Co. in Liberty announced the sale of the now closed plant to Western Rig and Equipment Co. of Houston. National Steel Co. said the agreement in principle would bring about 375 jobs at the plant that once employed about 800 before its 2 year shutdown. The facility, built in 1976 with a major 1982 expansion to 500000 square feet, will produce electrical resistance tubing and casing for oil drilling.
