AFL-CIO challenges poll tax amendment in Texas ballot
A federal suit from Texas AFL-CIO officials seeks to nullify the seventh constitutional amendment on annual voter registration and the end of poll tax immunity for seniors in small towns. Judge Herman Jones set a Jan. 1 briefing deadline. Secretary of State John Hill defends the notice, while labor leaders push for permanent registration and oppose annual registration. The case reflects disputes over ballot wording and the public’s awareness of a multi‑purpose amendment.
