Forces hit Viet Cong in Delta Action Near Saigon
Government troops surprised an enemy band about three miles south of Saigon. Two enemy soldiers were killed and nine carbines and submachineguns were captured as survivors fled. Allies aim to sap the Viet Cong political grip in the delta with river patrols and canal sweeps. More than 100 similar operations are underway, but few contacts with the enemy have occurred. Since bombing North Vietnam began November 1, the war has featured scattered skirmishes and raids.
