The Baytown club began in 1928 at Her ing's Drug Store, with 43 original charter members and current total membership near 187. Charter members still active include Dr. Clyde W. Spear and C. Portinberry. Rotary International began in 1905 in Chicago, founded by Paul P. Harris to foster friendship and civic service. there are 14,022 clubs in 148 countries with 660,500 members.

A contract for a new Highlands post office has been awarded. The building will be owned by Mr. and Mrs. F. V. Hamby of Nacogdoches and leased to the U S Post Office for 20 years with renewal options.
