Texas House blocks repeal of rural road act claim
Austin Feb 7 U P The Texas House speaker Durwood Stanford halted an attempt by an economy bloc to repeal the 10 million dollar rural road act. A 20 minute ruling sustained the ruling of order, with Fort Worth representative W Shannon and other Tarrant County lawmakers echoing the decision. The Senate considered hospital financing and an investigation into the Department of Agriculture as part of a larger special session agenda. Senator Gus Strauss of Hallettsville criticized clover seed grading as Farmers in his district voiced concern. The House recessed to consider further action tomorrow while the governor’s call targeted state hospital financing and roads projects. A proposal to raise fuel gas tax to fund state hospitals was introduced by Representative Deno Fufares of Wichita Falls, proposing a half-cent per 1000 cubic feet tax on gas sales.

GOP Backing Assures Help To Korea And Formosa In New Bill
Washington February 7 Republicans pledge to give the administration a last chance to hold the line in Asia and push a $60 million economic aid package for Korea and Formosa through Congress. Representative John M. Vorys backs the measure as extending aid through June 30 and allowing five months for an Eastern policy to emerge. The bill would halt aid if Korea’s coalition government includes Communist Party members. The package, already Senate approved, aims to keep a foothold in Asia until surveys by the joint chiefs and Jessup are complete.
