Baytonian Killed in One Vehicle I 10 Crash

Franklin D. Hargrave 26 of Baytown died in a one car crash three miles east of Highway 146 on Interstate 10 at 9 40 p m Thursday. DPS Beaumont office said his car left the freeway struck a guard rail and overturned no other vehicles involved. He was alone and taken to Sterling Funeral Home Anahuac. He was the son of Sam Hargrave and Mrs Mary Douglas.

Baytown Joins Statewide Driver License Crackdown

Baytown Police will cooperate with the Texas Department of Public Safety in an intensive license inspection program. Chief John Wilkinson announced officers will closely examine licenses during stops. Col. Wilson E. Speir said the drive targets unlicensed drivers amid rising crash tolls and supports Governor Preston Smith’s traffic safety plan.

Crosby Legion disavows Eckhardt as memorial speaker

Crosby American Legion Post 658 rejected Congressman Bob Eckhardt as speaker for memorial services Feb 22 honoring Vietnam veteran David Strong. In a unanimous vote, Post members criticized Eckhardt for votes against a flag desecration law and for not supporting Strong and his comrades. The service, organized by Operation Morale to aid a church in Strong's East Texas hometown, seeks a speaker reflecting Strong’s patriotic ideals.

Baytown man saves two children from burning car in Houston

Travis Parker, 22, rescued two small children from a blazing car in a Houston parking lot. He pulled out 2-year-old Kevin Keller and tried to save three-month-old Sandra Keller with a coat and a fire extinguisher. Sandra died later at Ben Taub Hospital. Kevin suffered burns to face and hands. Parker aided the victims in the ambulance en route to hospital.
