January may be a good sale month for retailers
The Associated Press reports retailers enter January with overstocked shelves after subdued Christmas sales. Analysts say inventory will be cleared with promotions, while some firms note December was good but not great. Toys R Us posted record holiday sales yet overall toy growth was modest. Walmart and Kmart saw stock declines as forecasts missed.

Light Rain and Warm Temps Across Texas Foretold
Patchy light rain and showers spread across Texas with cloudy skies and unseasonably warm temperatures. A Central Rockies storm and a high pressure ridge to the east push Gulf moisture northward, bringing south winds of 15 to 25 mph and higher gusts. Early temperatures ranged from the low to mid 60s to lower 70s in South Texas, with mid 50s to upper 60s elsewhere. Extreme lows included 73 at Brownsville and 55 at Amarillo.
