Paramedics Restore Life After Medical Emergency in Baytown
Charles Mixon credits two Baytown firefighters and paramedics with reviving Dennie L. Johnson Jr after he collapsed outside a McDonald’s near Garth Road and Baker. Johnson’s heart stopped and ventricular tachycardia prompted defibrillation with Zoll as responders worked to restart circulation. Mixon and onlookers stayed by Johnson until EMS stabilized him.

Baytown officers Lee Edmondson Nathan Brown John Almendarez and Kelvin Chenevert received medals and certificates for heroic acts. Edmondson, Brown and Almendarez earned the Life Saving Award for rescuing a man from the Fred Hartman Bridge on Sept 15 amid high winds and traffic. Chenevert earned the Distinguished Service Cross for firing at a robber during a hotel room gunpoint incident on Sept 26, protecting civilians and fellow officers.
