Goose Creek trustees focused on two rezoning paths and a plan to transfer excess funds to Laredo district. Five high school options were presented. staff will research, with no decisions made. The board emphasized heeding the rezoning committee’s core components while avoiding consolidation.
Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Sylvia Garcia ordered ferries to display Christmas lights. The Lynchburg Ferry, in operation since 1822 under Harris County since 1888, received icicle tops and a wreath while landings glowed with multicolored lights. Garcia handed candy canes to waiting motorists as the festive display continues beyond this year.
Baytown firefighters prepare for the 16th annual Share Your Holidays Food Drive at the Wal-Mart lot on Garth Road from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday. Food collected in past years supported the Missouri Street Church of Christ as main distribution point, with Goose Creek district aiding in the effort.
The Baytown Art League gallery at Bayland Island Pavilion 2641 Highway 146 welcomes visitors daily 10 am to 6 pm Monday through Saturday and 10 am to 5 pm Sunday through Sunday. A raffle offers a watercolor donated by president Bobby Sutphin framed by Henry Stewart with proceeds benefiting the league scholarship fund. For more details call 281-427-4114.
Chambers County Commissioners Court approved a new ordinance to restrict non resident garbage disposal. Starting 2004 residents must register a vehicle with a two year permit and show local address. A $5 fee applies and commercial haulers from other counties face higher fees.
