Hollywood Story Lived By American Soldiers
Seoul dispatch recalls a dramatic firefight along the Imjim River north of Seoul over a 36 hour period. Eight Americans were killed and a ninth wounded by Russian weapons amid a Communist plot tied to elections in South Korea. Soldiers including Pvt. David Seiler and Pfc. Charles Dessart faced a force of seven to nine Reds who crossed the border, exchanged fire, and retreated, with Lt. Tucker and Sgt. Cooper organizing a skirmish line. The clash ended as officials kept details cautious and the front line remained tense after the encounter.
