Approval Of Aid Cut In Senate Seen
Washington AP. Senate Republican leader Everett Dirksen of Illinois said the Senate may sustain the House cut of 585 million from foreign aid. President Kennedy condemned the action as short sighted and partisan. The House passed a 33.5 billion ceiling with 222-188 and 224-186 votes, sending the measure to the Senate. Kennedy urged bipartisan support and warned against reckless spending. Fulbright and Sparkman offered cautious remarks on restoration. Morse pushed for broader reductions. Kennedy noted his past support for aid and blamed Republicans for the attack on aid this year.

Library budget trimmed to 70 thousand for year
The council reduced the proposed 86 616 dollar Sterling Municipal Library operating budget for 1953 64, cutting 16 616 from the total. The book budget lost 8 354, leaving 16 in the original 20 000 proposed. Librarian Hank Blasick says the cuts would cover about 1 500 new books. The library now has about 17 000 volumes with a full collection expected around 60 000. Proponents and opponents traded views as council debated the cuts, ultimately preserving payroll for five pages and funds to hire two more staffers.
