Brownwood Subdivision to Be Lost Forever After Hurricane Alicia
Brownwood, once a thriving Baytown subdivision fronting Crystal and Burnet bays, was evacuated and abandoned after Hurricane Alicia on Aug 18 1983. Substantial subsidence, high tides, and levee failures ended the community, its homes bulldozed, leaving a nature center to memorialize the site and spur regional water management changes.
