The federal government renamed the Houston area the Houston Baytown Sugar Land MSA in June, covering Harris Chambers Fort Bend Waller Liberty Montgomery Brazoria Galveston San Jacinto and Austin counties. Baytown Mayor Pete Alfaro called the move positive for attracting businesses and jobs as Baytown’s population to employment ratio helped it gain principal city status.
