Baytown Municipal Development District approves an 18 percent cut to the 2003 04 budget totaling 2.57 million led by interim comments from Assistant City Manager Bob Leiper. Chambers County Budget Up 7 Percent In 2004 Plans
Chambers County Commissioners on the first budget workshop day learned the county incinerator is projected to earn 2.3 million dollars next fiscal year. The 2004 budget aims for about 7 percent growth from 19 million to 20.3 million with a near two cent tax rate drop. Solid Waste Director Jimmy Kahla cited 2.36 million expected incinerator revenue against 2.7 million in costs, warning revenue could exceed estimates. He noted waste from medical and other firms under contract and said past projections were optimistic, with only 875,000 earned so far this year. Commissioner Bill Wallace raised concerns that the incinerator may be burning revenue-based waste rather than municipal waste.

Lakewood Church of Christ to distribute free clothing
Volunteers from Lakewood Church of Christ will give away free clothing to families on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at 7701 Bayway. The event includes school uniforms, some new and used, marking the fourth year of the clothing giveaway.
