Baytown benefit raises funds for Sabrina Shirley cancer fight
Dozens gathered at Rocky's Pelican Junction for a barbecue benefit supporting 2 year old Sabrina Shirley diagnosed with hepatoblastoma and undergoing a NIH Johns Hopkins trial after Texas Children's Hospital patients stopped responding to treatment. Organizers hope to raise 15000 to 20000 dollars to cover travel and medical costs. The family flew to Washington on an Angels of Mercy flight and Sabrina will stay there for ongoing therapy with trips every 21 days if responsive. Activities included a 7 dollar plate barbecue, silent auction, raffles for a Remington 870 shotgun, and gifts from local businesses. Burl McBride provided entertainment and 1000 Sabrina shirts were sold.
