Call for U S attorney general probe of Short Creek
Senator William Langer urged the U S attorney general to investigate possible juvenile delinquency in Short Creek Arizona after Mohave County officials testified that the welfare of Short Creek children was at risk during a juvenile delinquency hearing. He asked Peter Chambliss to draft an emergency bill for an investigation. The Short Creek polygamous community had been raided, men convicted of conspiracy, then given suspended sentences while wives and children were removed. In recent months the men reportedly returned and promised to abandon plural marriage, with courts ordering children returned to their families.
