General Tire Bids On Baytown Rubber Plant
Six firms bid Friday to purchase the Baytown rubber plant now run by General Tire and Rubber Co. General Tire joined Goodyear Food Machinery Tennessee Gas United Carbon Baytown Rubber and Chemical and possibly Minnesota Mines among bidders. A three man commission will evaluate bids led by Holman Pettibone with a May 29 recommendation expected. General Tire has been asked to keep the plant operating during negotiations.
