Dense coastal fog in Beytown area slowed ship and air traffic and reduced highway speeds to a crawl. By 7 30 am visibility rose to about 144 city blocks as the fog lifted. Eight year old loses eye after glass shatters through window
Ray Gene Hrazek of Dayton, eight, lost sight in one eye when glass fragments flew into his eye from a window broken by a playmate. He was rushed to San Jacinto hospital at 2:50 pm Friday, underwent eye removal surgery, and was resting comfortably Saturday morning. He was with other youngsters berry picking in a two story abandoned house when a ball rack struck a window, sending shards into his eye.

A panel of 11 polio specialists led by Dr Jonas Salk reviewed the vaccination program with U S Public Health Service officials in Washington. Fire Destroys LP Yacht Basin Home
A five room home at La Porte Yacht Basin burned to ashes in a late night blaze. Watchman J M Huddileston was on duty when the fire started around 12 30 am. The cause remains undetermined. La Porte Volunteer Fire Department responded. The basin has suffered previous losses including a motor cruiser explosion and a docked boat destruction within the last year.
