Rites Set Saturday For Ex Deputy School Boss John M Stuart

John M. Stuart former Baytown deputy superintendent and longtime educator dies at San Angelo hospital after a stroke. Funeral at Earthman Funeral Home Saturday at 2 pm. Born in Bedias Texas he taught in Huffman and Baytown schools and earned degrees from Sam Houston Missouri Colorado and Texas. Survived by wife two daughters and five grandchildren. Also noted Northshore High School student Lee VanDeventer named to National Honor Society.

Paul Seale, 1971 valedictorian at Robert E. Lee High School, earned National Merit Scholar status, a $1,000 award, and will study abroad through the American Field Service. The Baytown Museum Advisory Board, formed at the Community Center, named I. M. $12 Million Rise In 3 Month Span

Deposits in Baytowns five banks jumped by 12 million in the first quarter of 1971 to a record 86.84 million. Citizens National led with 49.06 million, aided by 8 million in time deposits sourced outside the trade area. First National Bank held 17.20 million, followed by Peoples State 14.39 million. Channelview and Crosby area banks also posted gains versus the prior quarter and year.

Bookmobile drive here nets $800 toward library goal

The Sterling Municipal Library seeks 20 000 to fund a new bookmobile. So far 800 has been raised with 360 donated in one day. The device is ready for delivery and a firm date will be set. The Friends of Sterling Library urge further gifts to serve underserved city areas this summer.
