Furor over Props Report on Cotton Surpluses Roils Senate
Senate Agriculture subcommittee led by Eastland backs a plan for high price supports with restricted plantings but faces opposition from Young and Scott. The report argues current laws keep world prices high, harming American cotton farmers, urges removal of the State Department from surplus disposal and continued subsidies to curb surpluses while restoring export markets.

Subdivision Sewer Financing Split Sparks City Debate
Council debated extending a main sewer line to Richardson’s subdivision amid funds shortages. Richardson offered $75,000 to $80,000 for an eight inch line with the city covering the difference to a 10 inch pipe if needed, but he declined the city’s compromise. The panel formed a committee to study options while approving the subdivision street layout.
