Shell Dredging Bill Hearing Set For May 4 In Texas
Sen. Wayne Connally said the Senate Parks and Wildlife Committee will hear Sen. Bill Patman’s shell dredging bill on May 4. The measure would require public hearings for shell dredging in bays and submerged lands and shift proof of ecological safety to applicants, replacing the current Parks and Wildlife Department standard. Patman opposes shell dredging and previously challenged a Matagorda Bay permit by Lone Star Cement. The committee will decide whether to move the bill to the Senate floor.
