DeRudder Dies After Artificial Heart Implanted

Houston AP report details the death of Marcel DeRudder a 61 year old coal miner from Westville after six days with a partial artificial heart device in his chest. Doctors cited a probable rupture of the bronchia or trachea as the cause though a post mortem was pending. The operation led by Dr. Michael E DeBakey aimed to rest the left ventricle while healing. DeBakey said the pump was working and essential biology could have killed him without it. DeRudder had shown slight kidney improvement but developed lung congestion and died at Methodist Hospital.
