Quanell X schedules town meeting on Baytown police actions
Quanell X of the New Black Panther Party schedules a 6 pm Sunday town meeting at Bicentennial Park to discuss the Baytown Police Department. He says the aim is to inform residents how to file complaints and possibly form a local chapter while inviting city officials. Mayor Alfaro and City Manager Mercer question the gathering and its political motives. A city park permit is required but none had been filed as of Wednesday.

Beach City approves higher utility rates amid uncertainty
Beach City council approved new telecommunication rates tied to a 20 percent rise, though enforceability hinges on PAC approval and deadline status. Nonresidents pay $2.20 while residents and Category 1 dialers pay $1.20, with potential $2,600 annual city revenue. The council may adjust rates in September and canceled the May 4 election due to no contested races.
