Baytown marks 2013 Holocaust March of Remembrance with keynote speech by Al Marks, who 68 years after Ebensee camp liberation recalls the tank driver who saved his life. His daughter Karen Aarons, vice president of Knesseth Israel, recounts meeting the liberator and the lasting impact on their family.
Baytown hosts a Holocaust remembrance event from 1 to 4 p.m. starting at Faith Presbyterian Church 3900 North Main Street with noon registration and an opening prayer. The two mile walk proceeds to St John the Evangelist Catholic Church 800 West Baker Road and back to Faith Presbyterian for a closing ceremony with proclamations, speakers, music, candle lighting, and the Mourner's Kaddish. Proclamation by Mayor Stephen DonCarlos expected.
Keep Baytown Beautiful invites residents to join Trash-Off Baytown a citywide cleanup event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday as part of Keep Baytown Beautiful efforts to remove trash from streets and homes. The free event encourages community involvement and prepares the area for spring and summer.
Baytown Health Department and Stormwater Management invite residents to a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day and Electronics Waste Collection Day this Saturday. See Waste See Page 3.
Baytown police arrested 31 year old Timothy De Wayne Myles for allegedly taking car keys and a purse containing 2000 dollars from a 55 year old woman inside a Park Street convenience store. Police report the keys were left on a gaming machine. SEE THIEF PAGE 3
REL Principal Bruce Davis accepts a 910 check for books in memory of Robert E. Lee class of 63 departed classmates from Kay Hester. Librarian Sharon Harp oversees the donation which honors 26 members of the class who have died since the last reunion five years ago. A contributed photo accompanies the note.
