County Judge Jimmy Sylvia said security upgrades were planned before the Kaufman County DA Mike McLelland and wife Cynthia were killed but were accelerated amid statewide safety fears. Ground level south and west entrances will be the only entry points, with second floor doors exit only. Sylvia notes a security committee has been meeting for months and extends condolences to Kaufman families.
Baytown City Marshal, Municipal Court, and Police Department participated in the Great Texas Warrant Roundup from Feb 18 to Mar 10. Local efforts cleared 1,173 warrants valued at $454,945, with $219,491 in court collections and about $235,454 discharged via compliance, dismissals, plea bargains, extensions, or jail time.
Friends of Cedar Bayou Unit members saw a Baytown Health Department sound meter in action at a Tuesday meeting. Mike Lester explained the meter operation, noting the health department handles weekday enforcement while police cover nights and weekends. The Baytown ordinance sets a sound cap and a floor above background noise, with a five minute sampling period to assess compliance. Page 10.
