War on women rhetoric fuels claims and counterclaims
An observed feminist forum near the White House convened to energize abortion rights supporters and frame Catholic influence as oppressive. Barry Lynn, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, depicted feminists as liberal Democrats seeking Obama's second term, railing against patriarchal constraints. The event featured criticisms of the Vatican, campus life at Catholic University of America, and calls to defend female rights amid health care contraception debates. Scholars cited polls and historical views on faith in civic life, while critics labeled the rhetoric as scare tactics from Democrats seeking to win back women voters.
