The Lady Rangers edged Dobie 2 1 in overtime to advance in the 5A soccer playoffs. Dobie led early but the Rangers battled back with a late equalizer before sealing the victory in extra time.
Baytown police charged 27 year old Houston man Jose Alfredo Dominguez with capital murder in the weekend killing of Ercile Rae Johnson a 54 year old Food Town sacker found dead in his North Main Street apartment. Johnson suffered extensive head neck trauma and more than seventy stab wounds.
Luna’s Mexican Restaurant hosted a Peck Out Cancer fundraiser in memory of Kim Peck who died at 27 from ovarian cancer shortly after her child’s birth. Staff and family wore shirts with Hope Strength Faith Courage Cure Ovarian Cancer while a scrapbook and posters highlighted the family’s cancer awareness efforts.
The Jefferson County Medical Examiner ruled the drowning death of 2 year old Devon Davis an accidental death with no signs of foul play. Davis was reported missing by his mother April on March 27 and a multi agency search lasting five days followed.
Five Crosby High School seniors face criminal trespass and criminal mischief charges for disabling 58 school buses over an April Fool's weekend. Captain John Moore said the act appeared as reckless one-upmanship, not gang related, with suspects cutting through a chain link fence to access the buses.
Carolyn Sprouse, a 19 year cancer survivor from Deer Park who works in Baytown, recalls how a freckle turned mole led to malignant melanoma. Her rapid growth and routine biopsy revealed the diagnosis, marking a life changing moment as she faced cancer at 26 and has since remained cancer free.
