Explosion at I X L barber shop causes damage in Galena
Monday about 10 30 in the morning the boilers at the I X L barber shop on Main street between First and Second exploded. The blast blew out windows and sent a heavy iron heater through the roof, landing 80 feet away in a vacant lot. About 200 dollars in damage, no injuries reported, proprietor Will Chendler says insurance does not cover explosion losses. Additional notes mention a Woodmen of America installation and other short local items.

Dr Alfred O DeWitt died at his home on North Military street Wednesday afternoon March 2 at 5 10 o clock after illness from acute pneumonia He was born April 21 1871 in Lakes County Indiana and came to Kansas with his parents settling in Elk County He studied at Cincinnati medical college and practiced in Baxter Springs since 1893 He married Carrie Danglade in 1904 and they had a son Armand Alfred He was a Mason Modern Woodmen Select Knights and Eastern Star member Funeral services were held at the M E church and burial followed in Baxter Cemetery The community mourns the loss of a widely respected physician and devoted husband father and friend

Dent's Poultry Cash Prices Lead Town Market
Dent's is the only place in town offering the highest cash prices for poultry and eggs. Willie Harbour shipped a carload of fat cattle to Kansas City this week from Quepaw. The cattle brought 6.90 dollars per cwt, the highest ever recorded for cattle from south of the quarantine line.
