Former resident slain while on official duties

Sherman J Handron 55 of Hoquiam Washington a former resident of this city and state game protector with the Washington State Game Department for 10 years was found shot to death on the west fork of the Humptulips river about 40 miles north of Aberdeen. Preliminary reports suggest foul play linked to illegal poachers targeting protected elk herds. A local sheriff and deputies investigated after a hunter with a bullet wound claimed to hear a shot and witness a brush noise. Authorities say the killer may have used a windfall for cover and that the wound to the other man could be self defense.
