Emerson Cottage at Bay Point Destroyed by Fire
The E. F. Emerson cottage at Bay Point burned to the ground Thursday evening. Mrs. Emerson and Mrs. Spinney escaped with limited belongings as flames spread from an accidental lamp, aided by Coast Guard crews and local volunteers. The structure, built in 1888, was insured but many personal items were not. The fire lit the area for miles as neighbors watched, and the property damage triggered a nightlong firefighting effort with several nearby cottages saved. The family planned to leave for Bangor, and the wind shift worsened the blaze before dawn.
