Editor notes John Youngflesh of Pottsville contributes a reflective piece recalling Bath Maine and its Kennebec estuary. The author, a former journalist, praises Bath’s landscapes from Kennebec shores to Georgetown cottages, recounts extended travels, and compliments local hospitality, maritime trade, and long friendship with Bay Point residents.
W B Kendall of Bowdoinham owns twenty farms and harvested over 170 two-horse loads for 1916, stored in 26 barns and weighing about 1000 to 1100 tons. The haul required eight mowing machines, a crew of four, 28 horses, and spanned fields up to 200 acres in a single day.
Hyde Windlass Company will extend its big plant at the South End with a 100 by 80 foot addition to the machine shop. The expansion will require removing the current office building and part of the Gibbons coal yard. A new office will rise where the propeller department stood at Federal and Water streets, while the propeller department will move to a lot north of the site. The machine shop will then run 400 feet in total length. Continued on Page Twelve.
