Republicans Poised to Sweep Three Maine House Seats

W. E. Mullins reports from Augusta that Maine Republicans expect to nearly double their House membership in the Sept. 14 election and may win all three seats. Ralph O. Brewster appears secure in the third district, Simon W. Hamlin faces tough odds in the first, and Clyde Smith has a fair shot in the second amid anti New Deal sentiment and Townsend-Lambert faction tensions. Oliver in the first district vies to oust Hamlin while lacking party unity and amid postmastership patronage struggles. The Brann White Senate fight dominates news ahead of any congressional outcome.
