Roosevelt Purge List Shifts Loom in Democratic Ranks
The piece argues Roosevelt faces battles if purge targets — Senators George and Tydings and Rep. O’Connor — join anti New Deal Democrats, risking party control. It notes restiveness in Congress, possible White House influence on policy, and urges young leaders with vision to seize opportunities, citing Hamilton, Randolph, Madison, and Clay as precedents. It also mentions a Midwestern Republican view opposing perpetual incumbency and a Thomaston exhibit of General Henry Knox mansion ship models.
