Anthony Pellegrini, Sagadahoc Fruit Co. proprietor in Bath, and Orazio Giunchiglia, a Quincy welder, were boyhood friends in Ortona dei Marsi Italy. They reunited unexpectedly when Giunchiglia visited Pellegrini's Bath fruit store, recognizing his old grape stealing partner from Sunny Italy. Giunchiglia learned of Pellegrini's location via a Bath Iron Works worker.
Sam Laico pool room proprietor reported to police that Alfred Santos, claimed Brookyln, N Y, slept in his establishment Sunday night and departed with a new suit top coat about 65 in cash and 40 packs of cigarettes. A larceny warrant was sworn by City Marshal Joseph A Butler and state police notified as Santos was last seen walking toward the potato fields of Aroostook County.
Mrs John H Hunt with Mrs Guy M Sprague entertained 24 members of the South End P.T.A. on Wednesday noon with a lawn setup and a vegetable dinner. Mrs W H Small and Mrs W P Hatch assisted, and afternoon card games followed. This dinner was the sixth gathering of the season.

South End P T A hosts a Thursday afternoon tea at its rooms on Washington street to benefit the association. Hostesses include Mrs Clara F Coombs Miss Lillian F Pishor Mrs Russell M Colby Mrs William T Crowley and Mrs Leland Mitchell. Sewing and cards will be enjoyed. N B K Brooks a 70 year old retired textile manufacturer died Wednesday in Falmouth Massachusetts. He was born in Philadelphia and once operated mills at Skowhegan and Hartford Connecticut.
A Thursday rummage sale at Mrs. William D. Sewall’s Summer home in Small Point raised nearly 300 for Memorial Hospital. The event, paired with tea and a flower show, drew a large crowd. Mrs. John W. Williams served as general chairwoman. Tea was hosted by Mrs. Frederick Percy in South Lancaster Massachusetts. Prizes were awarded in several flower show classes for children and adults, with Aldous Chapin, David Sewall, and John Kennon Jayne Jr. among top winners.
Far and Near Missionary Society of Corliss Street church held an all day gathering at 270 High Street. Members brought lunches and coffee was served. Gardens furnished decor while White Cross quota for the year was discussed. A farewell was given to Mrs. Benjamin Stackpole who will winter in Melrose Massachusetts with relatives. Next meeting set for September 16 at 231/2 Russell Street with Mrs. Wilfred Chaney hosting.
The Days Ferry Dramatic Club presented a three act comedy written and directed by Bob Oliver at Tuessie Hall last Wednesday night. Officers of the club led a full house through solos, poetry, and amateur night chants. Proceeds from a candy sale will fund hall repairs.
A Pomona gathering featured John Carter noting Yankee ingenuity, a discussion on youth paths with consensus that agriculture offers best opportunity but carries hardships, and remarks from acting master Charlies Thompson. Mrs Benja Keay delivered the welcome, with poems and musical numbers enhancing a well attended event.

Two week Coch Bath area transfers show ongoing activity with buyers and sellers in Bath Bowdoinham Topsham West Bath Richmond and surrounding towns. Prominent entries include Glidden Doyle Bettison McCorr Rogers Levesque Leblanc Perham Putnam Burgess and Dana families transferring lands and buildings on North Marshall Lincoln Court and other streets.
A Chevrolet sedan owned by Arthur J. Sarkis of Bath Iron Works was badly damaged on the left side in a collision at the Washington and Union streets intersection. The other car, a Packard owned by Roland F. Hill, was traveling west on Union and sustained minor bumper damage.
Charles Mitchell Jr., 18 months old, son of Mr and Mrs Charles Mitchell of Upper Washington Street, sustained facial and chest burns after pulling a hot cup of tea onto himself. The incident occurred Wednesday of last week as tea was poured for his grandfather Horace Mitchell. Dr Joseph I Smith treated the child and he remained in Memorial Hospital for a few days with his Thursday condition described as very good.
Hon Oliver Moses second of this city treasurer of Wortumbo Mill received the Moses Silver Baseball Trophy Sunday afternoon at the Worumbo baseball park. The gift from the mill’s employer honored his role in securing an outstanding town baseball team. The ceremony occurred between games as Worumbo defeated Malden Massachusetts in a double header.
A 1937 Buick sedan stolen from Boothbay Harbor with Florida plates was found abandoned behind Morse high school in Bath. The car bore a forged license plate, and police linked it to a Maine Central Railroad safe-cracking attempt, suggesting the thief used the car for a getaway before abandoning it. George Levy, Sarasota, Fla., owner of a linen gift shop, identified the vehicle. Local authorities traced a Brooklyn garage check sheet in the car and suspect the theft involved a getaway plan.
Rev. Charles R. Sims cites Bath police records indicating a 100 per cent increase in arrests for intoxication in 1937 versus 1933, as citizens prepare a printed appeal urging Bath voters to oppose three liquor questions in the September 12 state election. He notes he used the last complete year as a benchmark and that current-year figures may be higher. He says the W C T U is interested but not sponsoring the printed material.
Miss Ruth S. Hodgdon was elected treasurer to succeed Miss Louise M. Stewart who moved to Boston at a special Club Garret meeting. Margery C. Haskell and Mrs. C. Roland Trott will write the Garret Gossip for next month. Arthur E. Hutchins Jr showed colorful films of Quebec Montreal and Mardi Gras in New Orleans. 26 members attended with refreshments.
James Doyle, 65, of Portland, was arrested on Center street and arraigned in municipal court. He pleaded guilty as he told the judge he felt guilty after a night out and received a 30 day sentence to Kennebec county jail in Augusta.
Justus H. Miller Republican and Dominique J. Tardif Democrat are Rotary members and candidates for Legislature. They spoke at Sedgwick after the luncheon on prospective legislation in a non political setting. The Yeaton family reunion drew about one hundred at Guy Yeaton's pine grove on Messalonskee Lake with attendees from Anson Madison Norridgewock Bath Portland Winthrop Belgrade Waterville Augusta and New Jersey.

The Bath group, newly organized, held a June meeting where Mrs. Jane Beach installed officers led by Mrs. John W. Gillespie president and Mrs. Oscar J. Tanguay vice president. The next meeting is Sept 7 at 7 15 p m at 17 Wesley Street.
At a Dyer-Fla herty Post 2197 Veterans of Foreign Wars meeting tentative plans were set for a Veterans Night and smoker on November 7 with music entertainment and noted speakers. Refreshments will be served. Interest in forming a Sons of Veterans unit was discussed. details available from Harold L. Corliss. A social hour followed with coffee doughnuts cheese and cake.
Daniel E. Foster is named general chairman of local arrangements for the Maine State Grange annual meeting to be held in Augusta December 6 7 and 9. A reception at Augusta City Hall Monday evening before the meetings will be hosted by Mrs. Foster and a group including Elmer A. Davis Mrs. Davis Ray Burns Aaron Ripley and several couples from Augusta Chelsea Readfield China and Oakland.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel V. Lord widow of Frank P. Lord were held Friday at two at the home of her sister Mrs. Owen J. Ledyard 789 High Street with Rev. Joseph O. Purdue officiating. The Augusta Business and Professional Women's Club opened its Fall season Thursday at the Three Cornered Pond camp with Miss Ethel Leavitt assisting. large attendance and engaging program.
The Republican City Committee stresses absentee voting for those away from the city on election day September 12 or unable to attend due to illness. Women workers urged to identify eligible absent voters and arrange absentee ballot applications to be signed approved and returned to City Clerk Gilmore by 5 p.m. September 10.
August traffic over the Carlton bridge declined from the prior year with 138 985 vehicles and 65 650 passengers crossing under five and fifty cent fare rates, respectively, signaling reduced toll receipts.
Judge Arthur J. Dunion presided Saturday morning with four intoxication cases. One respondent pleaded guilty and drew 60 days in Kennebec jail. The other three entered not guilty and the cases were continued to Monday for officer testimony. Ned Packard has been elected principal of Jefferson High School after teaching languages at Winterport High School and Bridgton Academy and graduating from Bowdoin College.
