Southern Melody Minstrels Prepare Two Night Benefit

The Southern Melody Minstrels stage two evenings at Morse High School auditorium to raise funds for Lincoln Lodge Odd Fellows. A 60-strong chorus performs 35 specialty numbers with local talent from Bath and nearby towns, including Irene Newman and Adie Moulton. Tickets at cast or A K Rogers shop.

Seventh annual Hospital fair a big success at Bath Iron Works

Memorial Hospital Auxiliary reports the seventh annual hospital fair at Bath Iron Works Recreation hall drew large crowds. Beano games on Wednesday Friday and Saturday evenings showed strong patronage and the Thursday rummage sale was a big success observed by attendees.

Winter Street Church Installs New Pastor Rev Richard J Schaper

Rev Richard J Schaper was installed as the eighth pastor in the 150 year history of Winter Street Congregational church. The ceremony drew hundreds as leaders from Maine and Massachusetts participated. Rev Albert B Coe delivered the sermon and Rev Cornelius E Clark offered the installation prayer. The Bath church keys were turned over by Deacon John Parker. A Bath Ministers' welcome was given by Rev C Clifford Sargent with fellowship extended by Rev Laforest E Hodgkins. Other participants included Rev Cecil L Witham Rev Harland G Lewis Rev Malcolm A MacDuffie Rev John H Wilson and Rev Kendig B Cully. A men's choir led by Austin Miller sang "Bless Be the Tie That Binds."

Plan Fall Clinic for Home Business in Portland Saturday

The Fall clinic of the Her Own Business program, a Maine small business initiative, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. for an all day session at King Junior High in Portland. Sponsored by local women's clubs and operated under the State Department of Labor and Industry, the program, directed by Mrs Ida M Bennett of Augusta, has already helped attendees start orders and re orders after displaying at the University of Maine clinic last May. The effort involves 56 participants across product service and shop fields, with notes from field work showing shop owners willing to stock Maine made goods but unaware of makers and that many home business developers need guidance. Verdicts in damages suits award 1041 dollars

Sagadahoc County Superior Court Traverse Jury awarded Lois Guerette 500 dollars for pain and suffering and 541 dollars to her father Albert Guerette for doctors fees and loss of time after a bicycle collision with an automobile driven by Lucien White of Topsham. A separate suit by Dr. Joseph I. Smith against Harry S. Larrabee of West Bath was slated for jury deliberation. Additional matters included possible arraignments for manslaughter adultery assault and attempted rape and an appeal in a drunk driving case.

Genesta Chapter of Eastern Star Has Inspection

Friday evening Genesta chapter O E S hosted inspection by Worthy Grand Matron Gladys M Stetson of the Grand chapter of Maine with a 630 chicken pie supper. Dignitaries and officers from multiple chapters attended as the matron announced her thirty ninth inspection year and highlighted the crippled children’s fund for Shriners hospital.

A Halloween tea and hair style show is set for Sunday from two to four at the South End PTA hall Bath to observe National Beauty Salon Week. Fifteen beauty salon operators from Bath Wiscasset and Brunswick will model trends and explain each hairstyle to raise money for a Hyde Memorial Home for Crippled Children in Bath.

Bath Boy Wounded in Korean War

Wesley Fields, 17, serving with the U S Army infantry, was wounded in Korea on October 4 and is recovering at a hospital in Japan, his mother Mrs Dora Harris of 1532 Washington Street reports from a letter Fields sent. He joined the Army last summer and had been in Korea only a short time when he was wounded, suffering a broken left arm. Previously he lived at the State Military and Naval Children's Home on High Street.

Memorial Hospital Fair Draws Large Crowds and Local Flair

Crowds pack the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary fair at Bath Iron Works Recreation Center for the biggest Friday night event in seven years. Bowdoin College’s Meddiebempsters wow the audience alongside the Westinghouse Oompho meter and Maine moving pictures. A color film “This Is Maine” showcased state sights and people, directed by Elford A. Stover. Saturday morning drew a capacity crowd for the children’s show with more films and entertainment.

Blueprinting Course Offered For Beginners At Morse High

School officials announce an elementary blue printing course to teach fundamentals of blueprint reading for laymen. Registration is open tonight at Morse High. A proposed upholstery class was dropped due to lack of an instructor and suitable space.

Morse Defeats Waterville 30-26 At Kelley Field

Morse football team, previously quiet in Maine high school play, upset Waterville 30-26 at Kelley Field. Munsey scored on a 75 yard kickoff return and led Morse with multiple touchdowns, while Bechard, Beaton and Jack contributed with strong runs and tackling. The turnover defense forced safeties on poor kick returns, sealing Morse's dramatic comeback.
