More than 100 members and guests of the New Meadows River Regatta Association gathered at Sedgemere near Rich's Mountain for a Halloween party. The event featured a four piece Laforest Coombs orchestra, Halloween decor, square dances, and refreshments including a pumpkin cake by Mrs. Fred Rose. Port land guests traveled to join the home club celebration. The hop committee was led by Carl H. Pinson with Mrs. Owen Williams and Mrs. Carl H. Pinson.
Justice Albert Beliveau presided at the Sagadahoc County Superior Court October term with seventeen divorces granted. The list names spouses from Bath, Topsham, Richmond, West Bath, Orrs Island and more, including a right to resume a maiden name for Winona Clark.
Bath residents Dorothy E. Corey and Muriel B. Mitchell along with Charles Frederick Mitchell and Edne H. Lockhart are listed as desertions from the households of Arnold L. Corey of Parts Unknown and Thomas H. Lockhart of North Yarmouth. The terse record cites multiple individuals and towns including Bath Richmond and North Yarmouth.
The Southern Melody Minstrels directed by Carl P Meister completed a two night run at Morse High School to near capacity audiences. I.O.O.F sponsored benefiting hall and charities with a three hour program featuring Irene Newman Allie King Arthur Knight Dido Cutting and many others. A second part included dance acts tap numbers and Dixieland band performances with makeup scenery and lights led by Margaret E Meister and crew. A cast party was announced at the I.O.O.F hall next Thursday.
Judith Ann Losier daughter of Mr and Mrs Edward Losier of West Bath hosted a Halloween birthday party at her home. Decorations featured orange and black crepe paper jack o lanterns and black cats. Prizes went to Mildred Simpson Roger McNeilly Bethel Estes and Ernest Rouillard. Judith received gifts including a decorated cake from Mrs Herbert Pratt of Brunswick.
Captain Euene Temple of Portland spoke to Bath firemen at City Hall outlining Maine State Federation of Firefighters aims. Objectives include better state-wide fellowship, equipment aid, standardization, education programs, pensions, standardized hours, civil service protection, and county unit formation in Sagadahoc. About 40 members joined, with a Sagadahoc county unit planned.

Beacon Street Methodist church Cub Pack 57 met Friday at seven with Cubmaster Carleton Pye in charge. Dens 3 and 4 performed Indian dances and stories, Den 6 with Richard Towle and drums, and a campfire tale. Activities included bobbing for apples and Halloween games. Den 4 had the highest parent attendance. badges and a Weebelos ceremony planned for next meeting.
Mrs. Allen Johnson of Mechanic Falls spent the weekend with her grandmother Mrs. Ethel McElroy on Robinson Street. Mrs. Bernard W. Pratt returned home at 10 Cobb Road after visits in Norwood and Somerville, Massachusetts. Mrs. Burnham C. Pratt came home from Memorial Hospital to 655 Middle Street and is much improved. Their sons visited daughter and son in law Mr. and Mrs. Wells Glover of Shortsville, New York, while Mr. and Mrs. Lester Chipman of Merrimac, Massachusetts and Mrs. Alice M. Ray of Revere, Massachusetts returned home after a Bath weekend visit with Mr. and Mrs. Thompson Potter on Court Street.
The October meeting of Cub Pack 99 at Central church became a Halloween party in the parish house. Cubmaster Donald ge led events as 42 visitors attended with Den No. 2 winning the attendance cup. Prizes honored best costume traits and playful contests followed by bubble gum, musical chairs, pin the tails on a car, a candle relay and nose walnut rolling. Refreshments were provided by a long list of mothers and guardians.
A surprise miscellaneous shower honored Mrs. Hugh Madden at the home of Mrs. Claude Beal in Nequasset with co hosts Mrs. Beatrice Hupp and Miss Jean Caton. Guests presented gifts in a clothes hamper and waste basket. games and refreshments followed. Mrs. Madden plans to join her husband in Georgia where he serves with Battery B.
A joint birthday and Halloween party was held Friday afternoon at Hyde Park Terrace. Hosts Rog er Drinkwater and Charles Riet zel welcomed guests from Bluff road and beyond. Out of town attendees included Mrs. M. Knight of Rockland Leilani and Jack Murphy of Brunswick and several other local residents.
Rev Ronald Bezanson of Portland Advent Church and Rev Earl Bodwell of Goodwins Mills Advent Church, noted accordion player, are leading services at Bath Advent Church on Middle Street.
Seven year old Billy Brown son of Mr and Mrs Lord Brown of Woolwich is recovering from appendicitis pneumonia and a birth defect affecting the kidneys since birth He has spent much of his life in hospitals and faces possible ongoing hospital stays A Billy Brown Fund was set up by Sagadahoc Ferry Mothers club to sponsor a dance at Tuessie's Hall with Woolwich parent teacher involvement and invites further contributions to help cover medical costs
Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Wold hosted a family gathering at 60 Court Street in tribute to Pvt Just Leslie Wold who faces a seven day delay before departing for Pacific duty. Wold, sworn in November 30, trained at Fort Dix and graduated from the Army Security School in Carlisle in September.
The Beacon Lights organized a Halloween event at Beacon Street Methodist church on Wednesday night. Prizes were won by Mrs. Bernard Lewis and James Steen. Refreshments were provided by Mrs. Daniel Lord Jr and others. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Richard Steen, Mrs. Lawrence Pero, and Rev. Alfred Ives, former Beacon pastor, now at Saco Methodist church.
The Bath lodge of Elks hosted a Halloween party at Lombard street lodge rooms drawing the largest crowd yet. Joe Avery's orchestra played as attendees enjoyed refreshments and novelties with entertainment by Bowdoin College Meddibemp sters chorus group accordion solo by Mrs. William Menealy and dances by Miss Sandra Sprankle and Gilbert Roy Brunswick.
The Independent reveals the plate tag tied to a dog named Gary from the Gary Children's Home in Bath Maine. Ex-Governor Percival Baxter donated the dog to the Naval and Military Children's Home after the prior pet died, leaving the tag unexplained for years.
