Officials urge road commissioners and city departments to ready snow removal equipment, supplies, and staffing for a potentially harsh winter. Emphasis on overhauls, new parts, snow fences, sand distribution, and cautious driving to protect essential workers and curb costs amid scarce gasoline, tires, and labor.

Committees cover decorations music invitations refreshments punch and entertainment with Mrs Leonard F Wetherbee as chair. A piano was donated for Hyde estate Navy barracks.
The Bath Lions club finished renovating the Dummer Street school building to house a Sea Scout troop. They repaired a damaged roof and floor and installed drop lights doors and refinished blackboards. Scouts and sponsors William Ballou and Charles Hoebel led the effort, with summer meetings held during renovations.
Workmen are razing the damaged Howard blocks on Center street after a fire in the early hours of Saturday morning August 15. Dora L. Howard, owner, has decided not to rebuild and has offered the land where the buildings stood for sale.
The Sagadahoc Probate Court’s second October session, presided by Judge Arthur J. Dunton, handled administrations in several estates from Bowdoin to Bath. Wills and inventories were filed and bonds approved for various executors and administratrices, including estates of Hodgdon, Johnson, Robinson, Russell, Wilson, Hoover, Peary, and Knowlton, with accounts and final hearings noted for several estates.
Bath Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumnae held its semi annual meeting Thursday evening with 20 members present. Miss Josephine Moore presided over nursing topics and other subjects of interest. A social hour followed with refreshments by Mrs. Henrietta Sonia and others. Attendees included Estella Cass Dorothy Milliken Constance Allen and many more. The next meeting is set for January 28 by AR.
An American officer reports cannibals, soldiers, sailors, and marines laboring together on a strategic South Pacific airfield. A sergeant recruited cannibals after they heard of good wages and food, with natives joining for work and pay. Community donations are requested at the U S O Center, including radios, victrolas, irons, book racks, coffee pots, records, and piano rolls.
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew T. Pray concluded a weeklong vacation with Mrs Pray's parents Mr and Mrs Ibra Lawrence and returned to their home in Norwood Rhode Island.
J W Belanger a General Electric Company executive and Bath native recently returned from West Coast shipyard tours to Bath where he once lived. He praised West Coast production and projected large future GE ship machinery output and postwar shipbuilding prospects. He spoke of GE supplying about 60 percent of propulsion gear for West Coast ships and noted Bath associations with Bath Iron Works leaders during a Sedgwick dinner.
Major General Sherman Miles announces a new tank destroyer branch for 18 and 19 year olds in New England as part of the Army reorganization. The tank destroyers are infantry trained in weapons and engineering to combat armored forces, with selection reflecting the era’s branch preferences. Other branches available include Coast Artillery Air Forces Field Artillery Engineers Signal Corps Cavalry Ordnance Quartermaster Armored Force Chemical Warfare Military Police and Medical Corps.

White Jr. to support their cause and preserve democratic musical traditions. The senator replied on October 5, 1942, expressing agreement and promising to uphold their principles.
Miss Marjorie illa Trott and Man Locsin were married at St Mannie’s rectory in Washington D C in a single ring ceremony officiated by Rev Robert J Dewdney. Attendants were Miss Ann Lufken and Lieut Parker Noulton Jr. The bride, a Morse high school and Lasell College alumna, works in the War Department. Locsin, a 1941 Maine graduate in chemical engineering, serves in the U S Merchant Marine.
Progress on a new Memorial Hospital wing continues as L Eugene Thebeau travels to Washington for meetings with officials. The plan requires property on Washington street from Mrs Marion Moody and land from Dr Hibbs and the Golder property. Approval from Washington and the War Production Board is sought before bids and contract awards.
Bath Lions Club held a busy Wednesday session with reports from chairmen, an address on Your Income Tax by Boyd L. Bailey, and the admission of two new members Albert B. Drouin and William Turpie. The group also noted funds from the Collins Festival and prepared for a large dinner dance.
Lowell temple No 31 Pythian Sisters held its weekly meeting with Mrs Jane Shea in charge. A afternoon tacking preceded the gathering and welcomed Mrs Alice Bowie back after illness. A baked bean supper boosted the treasury. A rummage sale is set for Oct 28.
Eugene Bowker of Phippsburg a Morse High senior leads a school scrap collection effort to aid the nation's war work. He used his truck in Woolwich Bath and Phippsburg Center School duties, with junior Gilbert Woodman assisting. Other schools honor pupils with photos of their home front labor.
City plans a new standpipe for the water system at the North End near Sewall's hill to supply housing progress. Delays stem from seeking priority permits from the War Production Board, but officials expect the issue to be ironed out soon and the standpipe erected.
Mrs Frank Cromwell of 501 High street has been seriously ill for six weeks but is greatly improved.
Mrs Joseph I Smith of this city attended the post convention conference of the Maine Congress of Parents and Teachers board of managers in Augusta. Principal speaker was Mrs Walter H Buhlig of Chicago who plans to conduct a school of information in Bath on Oct 27 for the Third District P T A council.

Eligible 18 to 45, healthy, skilled with tools. six month training with pay 1020 annually first three months rising to 1440 for next three. Exams daily in Portland Maine week of Oct 19 1942, final on Oct 24 1942. applicants must submit to Secretary by that date. High school graduate with one year algebra required.
Harry Mooer of Bath Iron Works has returned from a visit with his wife and daughter Harriet in Bangor.
Ruth C. Trueworthy, longtime Winnegance teacher who left to join Bath schools, was guest of honor at a Friday evening party hosted by the Williams and Williams homes. About 40 former pupils, parents and friends attended a Halloween themed gathering with pie doughnuts and cider. Gifts included a pen and pencil set and candy from attendees and others unable to attend.
