City Grants Broad Pay Increases For Police and Fire
The October city meeting approved substantial raises for all full time staff including police patrolmen fire department drivers city marshal and fire chief. Police salaries get a seven dollar weekly raise while fire drivers gain six dollars, plus 220 per year for the city marshal and fire chief. A 10 percent raise applies to all other subordinate officers and clerks retroactive to Sept 7 1942. The Lanham Act funds and regional WPA talks loom over the final decisions.

Dromore Grange Holds October Meeting With Guests
Dromore Grange met Tuesday evening in its hall for the October session with guests from Enterprise Grange Richmond village Bodwell Grange West Bath Grange and Norridgewock Grange. Supper at 6 30 featured beans rolls salad pickles jello cake and coffee. Refreshments were arranged by Mrs Annie Malcolm Mrs Elfreda Perkins Mrs Charlotte Owen. The evening included community singing readings questions by the grange and a peanut stunt won by seven men Robert Campbell. The next meeting is set for November 10. Mr and Mrs Ivan Kirkpatrick of 995 Middle Street visited Portland Friday.

Builders plan a new keel as they target a launching every 15 days, moving from a 21 day average.
