A delightful surprise party honoring Mrs Edward Brown was held at the Cosmopolitan club after a fashion show by the Cosmo players. Mrs Brown, director of the group who recently moved to Portland, will continue to direct the players. A linen gift was presented by president Mrs Richard Sherwood. Chester C Peavey of 29 School Street Bath has been named shift foreman at Union Carbide and Carbon Corporations Bakelite Division wood flour plant in West Bath. The promotion follows the firms policy of internal advancement and local hiring. Peavey has worked as a grinder operator since the plant opened last year. Mrs Clifton E Legard of Middle Street has returned home after surgery at Gregorys hospital Boothbay Harbor.

Mrs Ethel McElroy of Robinson street has returned home after a week in Portland visiting Mr and Mrs Emery Hart and Mr and Mrs Ralph Eaton.
An area meeting of the Business and Professional Women's clubs of the district was held at Worcester House in Hallowell with Augusta club as host. State president Miss Florence Jenkins presided and welcomed 125 members. Round table discussions covered membership and program coordination with National Representative Miss Lillian Majally offering recommendations. Attendees from Bath included Mrs. Thelma Mittendorf and others.

Dr Hanley spoke about Formosa with notes on its railways schools and literacy. He displayed coral jade cloisonne and kimono pieces and a vase showing local craftsmanship while the audience admired the exhibits. The lecture ended with refreshments.
Karl H. Stiles of Center Street has been recalled to active duty. After a few days at Fort Dix he will proceed to Washington. He is a sergeant in the Army Air Force Reserves and recently graduated from the University of Maine.
