At the annual meeting the Patten Free Library corporators noted a greatly improved reading and stack rooms with fresh tinting, bright woodwork, new flooring, and a more attractive juvenile department. Dr. Langdon T. Snipe was re elected president and trustee. Arthur K. Purington re elected secretary. The six vacancies were filled bringing membership to 109. Financials show year end Oct 1 1938 with $664.40 in operating funds, $16 247.90 total income, $15 673.44 expenses, and cash on hand $574.46.

Lightning Strikes Bowdoin Residents. No Serious Harm
Mrs. Maurice Ware and her daughter Miss Barbara Ware were lightly stunned by a lightning bolt that struck their Bowdoin home about 7 30 during a severe storm described as the worst of the season. The John Hall place on Carding Machine road also took a hit with minor damage, and Bowdoin and Bowdoinham lights were briefly knocked out.
