Destroyer Benner to Launch Thursday
A destroyer named for 2nd Lt. Stanley Graves Benner U S Marine Corps Reserve Arlington Mass native killed in action at Guadalcanal on Oct 24 1942 will be launched this Thursday at Bath Iron Works. Benner's mother Mrs Herman C Benner of 11 Avon Place Arlington will sponsor the craft. Benner enlisted Aug 21 1940 and served two months before his death. He was awarded the Silver Star posthumously for gallantry while in command of a platoon during action against Japanese forces in the Lunga area of Guadalcanal.

Ye Olde Tyme Fair sponsored by Bath Memorial Hospital Auxiliary ends at midnight Saturday at the State Armory on Lincoln Street. Governor Sumner Sewall backs the 38th annual Christmas Tuberculosis Seal Campaign launched nationwide on November 27. Maine Public Health Association sponsors the sale. 95 cents of every dollar funds tuberculosis prevention in Maine with an $80,000 state quota. About 800 city clerks managers and retail owners attended a Bath event to enlist in the Third Army for the Sixth War Loan Drive. Each was assigned a $300 sales goal and ranks from corporal to general based on performance as the rally featured a radio program hosted by Sanford Bo Nickerson.
