A prominent bird lover told The Independent that starling numbers are increasing this winter. A larger flock than usual roams from Winter Street Church belfry at sunrise, with reports of flocks in North Bath and a sighting in a Wiscasset area. He calls the birds a menace to other avifauna, even more dangerous than the English sparrow, and muses favorably on the hoot owl’s return for predator control. John W. Cummings left Sunday for a business trip to Philadelphia.
