Laforest Hodgkins of Central church leaves Nov 30 for Terryville. Rev. Richard Schaper of Winter Street leaves Nov 15 for Norwich. A chicken luncheon at First Baptist followed a business session on the Union Thanksgiving service.

Bath Iron Works employees donate to Edwards family fund
Employes of Bath Iron Works Corp contributed 730.75 to the Edwards family mortgage relief fund. The money, sent Monday, helps reduce the Pownal home mortgage after George Edwards and his wife died when their car plunged into Pownal brook during Hurricane Edna on September 11. Eleven Edwards children were orphaned. Leroy, 23, and his wife with five children moved into the farmhouse, now housing 16. Leroy’s 18-year-old brother George works in a Portland warehouse. Annie is 15 and in high school. other siblings range from 2 months to 14 years.

A house to house canvass in Bath West Bath and North Bath collected 870 with more to be turned in and Woolwich Phippsburg efforts continuing this week. The campaign aims for 2500 to support Sagadanoc Boy Scouting in 1955. Don ald Perry and wife hosted refreshments at Bath Iron Works Recreation building after the canvass.

Newell Named Police Sergeant by City Manager
Edward F. Newell, 44, of Bath, was named police sergeant by City Manager Nathan White following tests by the Personnel Service Commission. He fills the vacancy created by Sgt. Charles A. Pelletier’s resignation as Edward L. Gaudreau becomes chief and Robert E. Wagner Jr. leaves the lieutenant post. Sagadahoc Pomona Grange held an all day meeting with Bodwell Grange in Small Point with unusually good attendance. A noon baked beans covered dish luncheon featured pies doughnuts and coffee.
