Revoked license returned to Captain Call over Boston collision
Capt Alfred W. Call, master of the steamer Boston, will have his license restored by order of the steamboat inspection service after the fifth district appeals process found no fault in the Boston's navigation during the July 21, 1924, collision with the tanker Swiftarrow that killed four, damaged the Boston, and led to revocation of Call's license. The finding criticizes Swiftarrow captain Gomez for two long blasts and asserts the Boston remained under steady discipline despite conditions, with photographs showing the Boston dead in the water and Swiftarrow having momentum enough to pierce the bow.
